June 7, 2014 Brooklin, ON: Brooklin Spring Fair
The Fair was originally held on May 24 to showcase the highest quality of livestock in all of Southern Ontario. The local youth participated in running races and other sporting events. Fair day finished with a community dance.
The Brooklin Spring Fair expanded to its current four day format in the early 1980s. It now includes a Midway, Demolition Derbies, a Truck and Tractor Pull and other entertainment.
This year, we decided to check out the Demolition derby event at the show. Having never been to one before, we decided to visit the Demolition Derby event at Brooklin Spring Fair. In case you were wondering – demolition derby is a motorsport usually presented at county fairs and festivals. While rules vary from event to event, the typical demolition derby event consists of five or more drivers competing by deliberately ramming their vehicles into one another. Super fun. On Saturday the competitions covered four categories: Full Size Pro Modified DD 1980 or newer; Full Size Straight Stock DD 1980 or newer; 4 Cylinder Mini Smash and Half Ton Truck Demolition Derby.
